ABC Wednesday - H is for Hug

Sophie Ryder's "Standing Lady Hare with Dog"

February, 2007, we had friends from Seattle visiting and glorious, surprising winter weather. We planned a ride on the then brand new Portland Tram on Saturday morning. At the top of the tram, at the Oregon Health Sciences University, we naturally got off to take in the view of the Willamette River and points east from outside one of the hospital's buildings. That's where we came upon this sculpture that epitomizes compassion.

Here's a bit about the sculpture and others at the hospital.

Be sure to go to Mrs. Nesbitt's Place for loads of other ABC Wednesday blogs!

what a neat statue. The hug is wonderful, and since it is a rabbit you could also use H for HARE

great statue - i'll have to show it to my mom since she collects rabbits... i love the 'patina' these kinds of statues take on after being out in the elements for so long. very nice!

This reminds me of a line from Ghostbusters: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

What an unusual statue. I guess having it at a hospital is a good spot. Thanks for posting on my blog as usual. :D

So sweet a hug between a hare and a "hund".

Boy what an impressive hug. We can all use a hug but don't offer them too often. I saw a man on television in some big city offering free hugs and few takers. Or was it a woman for a while and then a man. As I recall the results were about the same.

Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting about the sore toe. My wife used to go shoe-less and lot and snag one or the other toe on chair legs which always upset her.

Hug & Hare - good H's!

Oh, if that doesn't find the child in all of our hearts I don't know what will. What a great reminder how much we all need a hug daily if not more frequently. It is probably one of the things I miss most in my life.

Hound Hugged by Hare - Hugely unlikely, but symbolically beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

Hound hugged by the Hare what a role reversal. It definitely shows compassion, maybe more than most of us would have towards our enemies.
Terrific H post.

Thanks for the pics. I love this statue. I'd like a copy of it.

Yes, it would take compassion for a rabbit to hug a dog.

I love statues and this one is particularly poignant with the dog.
