A primary color, yellow, lots and lots of yellow

I've had fun with Picnik's Exposure, Local Contrast, on these photos unless otherwise noted.

Cocktail, appetizer, salad--my Friday night at 3 Doors Down Cafe

DSC_0279p
Blackberry Daiquiri: blackberry puree, rum, orange liqueur and lime juice. Yummy summer libation.

DSC_0280
Appetizer: Miticrema fresh sheep's milk cheese (Montesinos, Spain), grilled figs, 30-year-old balsamic vinegar, crackers. Cheese note on the menu: cream-cheese-like consistency, salty, acidic, creamy finish) Perfect combination, the cheese, as noted, and the lush, juicy fig bits, on top of a firm yet crispy cracker that held up well to having cheese spread on it before disappearing bite by bite. (I took this photo right at the bar where I sit on Friday after work, with my friend Richard holding up the huge white cloth napkin to my right as a reflector for the sunlight coming in through the windows from the left. I think it turned out just like I wanted it.)

DSC_0284
Salad: duck confit, roasted beets, mache and creamy sheep's milk cheese. I had the same salad on Sunday, August 15, and well remembered the flavors and textures, the utter meatiness of the duck, my satisfaction doubled when my friend Danielle decided not to eat her duck confit, just her beets, mache and cheese. Yet, even though I only had the one duck leg Friday night, it's crispy skin and juicy meat demolished that memory, overtaking my senses. Who needs two duck legs when you've got one perfect leg to devour?

Music on Main, Dr. Theopolis, Aug. 18, 2010, Part #1

DSC_0151p
I took off early, rode the bus home, called for a taxi so that Mama and I could meet our friends Danielle and her mother Pat for an evening outdoors, listening to live music, for free! Danielle and Pat were here on a week's vacation, up from California. We had a great time listening to a band called Dr. Theopolis, quite a talented group of eight men who also happened to be quite easy on the eyes. Here you see four of them. Would that you could hear them.

One more of Dr. Theopolis.

And one more. Two to go.

The last two.

All eight of Dr. Theopolis, plus a bit of the crowd.

Come back tomorrow for shots of the crowd livin' it up to the funky beat!

If you get a minute, take a look at my other blog, Mama & Me from PDX--we're still on vacation over there! It's all about lug nuts at Talladega Superspeedway!

Obviously this is a GMC pickup truck. Well, I guess it is, because to tell you the truth, with the amount of customization I noticed on some of the vehicles, anything goes! By the time I took this photo--the last of the car grills from the Cruise In at The Bomber--I had crossed the street to catch the return bus. Hot, sore feet, happy.

A very special portrait of Duncan, our darlin' dachshund

DSC_0215
The glorious portrait of Duncan stands beside our television, near the box that holds his ashes, beside a favorite photo. The beautiful potted azalea came to Mama on Valentine's Day, 2008, by way of our dear friend Fred Washburn. Covered with blossoms for a very long time when it first arrived, the little azalea has now bloomed two more times in the past two years.

DSC_0221p
Karina Riebel of Painted Dog Studios completed the portrait from a photo that I had e-mailed to our friend Leslie Rosella. She and Chris Cooley gave the painting to us--sweethearts that they are.

I believe this is a 1950 Chevrolet station wagon with a 1950 Buick grill on it. Ever since I took the photo, that grill had been bugging me, had me thinking that's not a Chevy grill, that's a Buick grill, so I showed it to Mama. She said, "I believe that's a Buick grill." I went to Google Images and found support for our opinion.
