Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - ABC Wednesday - W is for Wonderful

This morning I walked east to a bus stop three blocks from our apartment, instead of waiting for the bus at the closer stop. About half a block from that corner, I stopped to take this photo, something I've been wanting to try, to see if I could get the camera to see what I see. What a wonderful canopy of leaves and its myriad shades of green!

Right now I could get up from my little iBook and look out any one of our nine double hung windows in our fourth floor apartment and see many, many wonderful trees. I thank those Portlanders who had the foresight to plant and care for so many, many wonderful trees. And I'm thankful that my camera saw so clearly what I saw this morning as I stood in the slight, cool breeze and looked up.

Thanks for your visit to my blog Brookville Daily Photo this morning. I hope you enjoyed my post today showing the baby rabbit eating the hibiscus flower.

I am now taking a diminishing dose of steroids for my Rheumatoid Arthritis pain and it works. I am pain free. I believe the chemotherapy drug is spelled "Methotrexate" that is used to treat a lot of things from cancer to arthritis and it has side effects that are troubling. So I need to talk to my doctor about it before I take it. Just missing a dose can be a real nightmare.

Anyway, I wanted you to know I stopped-in to repay your visit and comment with mine.

I enjoyed reading your blog post for today about the leaves and the contrasting colors in them and I thought your photography was excellent.

I also noted that these are not just any maples but the long life and slow growing hard maples (you can tell by the leaf design) and if I had to plant a maple I would choose this kind. They are among the best in the world for shade.

I just got my first shipment of used books from Strand's bookstore in New York City, yesterday. They have 18 miles of used books. Think about that. Anyway, they got here and I am totally happy with those I chose to read. I had to start out by just choosing a category, like photography, and go from there. I don't know how in the world they can keep track of so many books.

Look up Strand bookstore or copy and paste the URL here: http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/home/

All of that green looks great. Nice cover for the ground below. I enjoyed your story about the donkey.

Lynette,
When I walk around with my camera, I tend to look up and down a lot, and many times I shoot up into trees as you did (and the guy from a few days ago). It's just so wonderful to see life in different forms, no? We have two maples (sugar) growing in our yard, and one is right outside our bedroom window.. . . .

Sorry I haven't been commenting a lot . . . . a lost of personal stress going on here that has taken the wind out of me.

bTW. .. I love Jamison Sq. I would love to sit there in the sunlight. Portland seems like such a jewel of a place from all I read see and find (especially via your blog).

You have a camera that suits you! You both see the same! I have sometimes a quarrel with my camera. Then I say:"Why don't you see those beautiful colours I see".It has a mind of its own and I have then to use Picasa to enhance my photos.

Aren't digital cameras wonderful? I bet with a regular camera you would not take photos of these wonderful tree leaves. . .

I have tried to take a similar photos before. I especially like how the sun make the leaves translucent.

Wonderful photo and you are right to admire those who plant and care for trees.

Your green leaf canopy is gorgeous; I love the contrast of the dark branches against all that lovely green. I hope you go back in the fall when the leaves are another color...
