Surprise, courtesy of the down elevators

090308_stair_rail_MB
On August 22 when I walked into the building and over to the elevators, I read a sign that said something like this, "Only one elevator is operational. Facilities has been notified." Too many people stood waiting. I walked the three flights to my floor, carrying my rolling black bag. On the way from one landing to another in the stairwell, I decided to make the most of the opportunity and took this photo of the stair rail.

What surprise photo opportunity have you had lately?

Oh I just raililngs and ironwork that make the most lovely little abstract photographs. I like this one sooo much. The nice soft colored background is perfect. When life gives you lemons.... well, you know!

I look twice at most stairwells to see if I might find interesting lines and repeating elements.

Now that you know where the stairs are you can take them every day Lynette. Set an example for the whole building.

Of course if it's 20 floors high there could be limits to the amount of participation.

Cool lines and angles with the rails going all directions.

Hi Lynette!
Great shot. Now, just imagine that you have 13 floors up, and that you read: «during the works, both elevators may be occasionally stopped!" Ugh... ;))

I’ll finally get some days off this year; not much, just from Friday night (September 5th) through Monday morning (September 15th). But I don’t leave you empty hands: a beautiful beach and lots of champagne wait for you at Blogtrotter. Enjoy!

Makes me knees hurt just looking at it.

Lynette, you always see the good in a bad situation. That's what makes you such a nice person to be around. I would have read that elevator sign, turned around, got back in my car and went home for the day! :o)

No surprise photo ops for me today, but a nice surprise finding your blog. Thanks for the comment over at my place.

I really like stairwells - look up them from the bottom or down them from the top often yields some great shots. At the Glasgow Lighthouse (our Centre for Architecture, Design and the City) recently I went down the stairs for the first time (I wimped out and went up in the lift and elevators, I must admit!), and they have some great opaque glass patterning on the wall, which will feature at some point on my blog!
