Flower Study, No. 3

Do you think these white blossoms started at like those pink buds? I wish I could tell from looking at the flowers when I took the photos and/or when I look at the photos. But, I just don't know. If you do, please share your knowledge. Thanks!

While cold and blustery weather lingers, I'm dreaming and knowing this too will come, No. 7

Sunny mid-day, busy downtown park, the perfect training period for this seeing eye dog. I took this photo on July 16, 2009, at 11:58 a. m., during my lunch hour. I took the bus from my building west across the Willamette River and ate my lunch in the park. Always I find plenty to photograph there at that time of day. Positive effort reinforced through a reward--the best way to have the dog learn exactly what is needed in order to become a successful help-mate to a person who truly needs that help.

While cold and blustery weather lingers, I'm dreaming and knowing this too will come, No. 6

I took this photo on June 26, 2009, at 5:07 p.m. Look at the wedding party, carefully crossing the sunny street on their way no doubt to a wedding photo site. The woman in the brown pants has a camera and a bag full of stuff. The woman behind her in the black pants also has a camera. As best as I can tell from the first photo in the series, the woman in the short-sleeved red top and the blue jeans just happened to be on the corner waiting for the light to change when the wedding party joined her. Likewise the woman in the black skirt and the flip-flops. It cracks me up how indifferent the two of them see, there in the midst of that colorful, youthful group. I have to wonder whether or not the two of them gave their chance encounter enough thought to have related it to someone when they reached their destinations. From the look of them, I doubt it. And, to me, that's a doggone shame. What is your opinion? Would you strike up a conversation in a situation like this? Would you tell all about it later on?

Seen on the TriMet 20 bus, heading west on West Burnside

DSC_0486

Hats came out on a sunny day in Portland, Saturday, July 7. At first there was just the man in front of me with the hat. The bus stopped. The other man with the hat got on, followed by the woman with the hat. Had to take a photo.

I guess she couldn't see well enough without propping up the brim of her hat. Had to take another photo.

Cast Iron Colonnade in Skidmore/Old Town

DSC_0128p
The Saturday that I rode the MAX to shop at the Dress Barn, I took this photo from the window. As I looked at it closely, deciding if/where to crop it, I noticed that gaggle of guys to the left beside the lamp post. Immediately I wondered, "Just what are the three of them looking at the one on his knees doing?" Then I noticed the women looking over their right shoulders towards the guys. Surely those two women are wondering, "Just what are they doing over there?"

The canopies which you see between the arches are a small bit of the western most part of the Saturday/Sunday Market. And that's an even tinier bit of the crowd out on a sunny day!

DSC_0128p-p
I love that guy's black and gray checkerboard shirt and pants! Now that I look at the photo again, I'm wondering, "Is the man in navy blue angry, or did I catch him at the moment of pushing his glasses up on his nose which made him look angry?" So I've cropped it closer. What do you think? Is he on one of those hands' free phones?

I found this information, and lots more about the area here, to share with you: In 1984 a colonnade consisting of cast-iron components salvaged from the North Wing of the New Market Theater by the Portland Friends of Cast Iron Architecture was erected on the site of the original building.

Fun at Overlook Park, Saturday, October 16, 2010

DSC_0536p
I'm guessing the little girl standing in front of the clown is the birthday girl.

DSC_0539p-p
In seconds, the clown stood up on the board, balancing on the pipe, then flicked the stick upward causing the plate to fly up, then she caught it in the same hand that held the stick. The kids loved it!

DSC_0564p
Something the clown said to the party-goers got them off and running. The little girl in the lead on the left, the one that I think is the birthday girl, I think I've got it right because she's got on a petticoat that I'll bet the clown brought for her to wear during the party.

DSC_0555p
I took a couple of photos of this dad spinning these girls, watching how he threw his hands off the pipe, hoping to catch the action. I did!

DSC_0551p
As I decided to walk back to Interstate Avenue to wait for the MAX Yellow Line, I noticed a line of bicyclists coming across the park from my right to my left. I waited for them to cross and got this photo. What better place to stop for what turned out to be a short rest, especially on sunny, blue-sky day!

On the street, July 24, 2010, a lavender umbrella and a breeze

DSC_0471p
Sunny, breezy morning. As the woman waits to cross West Burnside at NW 21st Avenue, the breeze swirls around her head, lifts strands of her hair. The lavender umbrella makes a bit of shade, enough to satisfy her. Is she worried that her umbrella will be blown inside out?

DSC_0473p
She crosses the street and continues south on SW 21st Avenue, every glistening hair in place, no evidence of the breeze left behind. Intact, the umbrella still functions.

Seen on the streets of Portland, No. 10

Last Saturday I'd almost made it to Kenny and Zuke's when I spied these three walkers. Since I've not yet become brave enough to ask if people will allow me to photograph them, I acted like I was photographing the #15 bus! Wait. Is that the clucking of chickens I hear in the background? Yep. But it's a good photo of the bus, don't you think?
DSC_0095

They passed me, and I got this one, too. I like their casual style, just right for a Portland sunny day, complimented by cool breezes.
