Colors from Saturday's out-and-about: Portland Farmers Market at PSU

P5280071

I like how the colors of the eggs stand out from the bland, gray egg cartons.

P5280073

There's a sturdy delicacy in the colors of this bouquet, dichotomy of those two words be damned.

P5280074

All I see here is a juxtaposition of robust colors with pastels. I'm not certain that I like the combination.

Not only the colors, but also the design, on this rolling bag caught my eye. It's a miracle that I managed to get a clear shot of it as the young man walked away from me. Hundreds and hundreds of people walked every which way.

When I walked back by here about ten minutes later, almost all of the purple things had been sold. Are they giant turnips? I have no idea and didn't stop to ask, nor did I think to photograph the sign. Google and my search word skills to the rescue. I typed in odd looking purple root vegetable and discovered this is kohlrabi. Those root vegetables beside them may be French pink radishes. My best guess, based on a quick search of carrot-shaped radish and finding a photo that looks similar, including the greenery which resembles none I ever seen on carrots.

What I saw while on a NE Portland Kerns Neighborhood Walk with Lamont, Sunday, January 5, 2014, No. 3

Altered with HDR at PicMonkey. Could not pass up the chance to get these two sorts of bicycle racks in a photo, playing off the curves, the rectangles, the colors. I took this photo at at da Vinci Arts Middle School, a short walk from my apartment building.

Neons are in! Street level matching colors, No. 1

color_girl_bike_orange_chartreuse_BeFunky

April 20, 2012, outside the Rose Garden Arena, I noticed a colorful sight, this young woman on her Day-Glo orange bicycle which has buttery yellow sidewall tires and even brighter orange wheels. There's even a narrow, swooping orange stripe on her creamy white-colored bicycle seat. She's wearing a bright chartreuse green safety vest. Her bicycle helmet has a matching orange stripe, a matching green stripe, and a soft blue stripe on its creamy white surface.

I saw her outside the Rose Garden Arena, pedaling north at through the intersection of NE Wheeler and NE Multnomah. Just to the right of the street lamp, up that slope, lies I-5, the southbound side of it. NE Multnomah crosses beneath the interstate.

I had a good time looking photo, noticing street level matching colors. Shades of orange--a streak at the base of the street lamp, rust on the fence poles, some sort of flaking sherbet-colored paint on the concrete wall. Shades of green--the new grass, the trees and shrubs, the flaking mint-colored paint on the concrete wall. I can't get myself to count the green on the street signs, though--it's just too different to count.

Seen on the streets of Portland, No. 5

bike_girl_rays_SW_10th_cropped
A bicyclist rides north on SW 10th Avenue at its intersection with SW Morrison Street. I like her color choices and their coordination--even her bicycle is pink. As a mother, though, I wish she wore a helmet.

I took this photo on October 25, 2008. I found the neatest pair of sunglasses in Ray’s Ragtime on my one and only visit. Their Web site is not worth looking at, so I didn't include a link. However, the store itself is stuffed with all sorts of interesting stuff. The windows are a treat, too. I need to get some photos of them.

Fall Colors, on NW Everett Street in the Northwest Hills

100707_cars_street_fall_colors_469x625

This evening the television weatherman said that Portland's weather is more like November than October, as much as ten degrees cooler than it ought to be. When I was a kid growing up, October meant cooler weather and the leaves changed color, so I think it's just right.

On our street you can see reds beginning to overtake greens in one of the trees in front of the Manhattan. I first saw the change in the tree when I looked out the bathroom window. Then I noticed the yellow and black car with the For Sale sign in the window, and continuing on up the sidewalk, I saw the red car and the other yellow car. Ah. A perfect fall foliage photo, with street-level accessories. I leaned out one of Mama's bedroom window to get the shot I wanted.

P.S. I took the close-up of the leaves resting on the sidewalk in the rain Thursday evening after shopping for groceries at our nearby Fred Meyer. I couldn't resist that vivid red.
