Pink super hero gives me the eye when I take his photo at the Race for the Cure

-->

DSC_0106

Today's photo, one more with a lot of pink from the Race for the Cure. You know that this super-hero-in-some-sort-of-pink-pants caught my eye. He must've felt me taking the photo because he aimed his razor sharp eyes right at me. I could see 'em through the lens!

Starting Sunday, October 5, I will be out of town, off to England and Scotland for a Trafalgar tour. So, I'm doing my best to complete posts for the days I will be out of town. I plan to search my photo archives for at least one photo that I took on that particular date at some point in the past. I hope you'll enjoy them!

UPDATE, 6:18 a.m. 10/4/2014: Evidently I did not take at least one photo on each day in past Octobers, to I've posted photos taken during October in past years. Enjoy!

Salmon Street Springs, the cycle called bollards at the Race for the Cure, 2013

DSC_0391

In this photo that I took at the 2013 RFTC, I got this shot of another team being photographed beside the fountain. Surely this is the cycled called bollards. Compare the 2013 morning to the 2014 one in yesterday's photo. Each of us mentioned how happy we were to see the sunshine.

Here's a definition for you: A bollard is a short vertical post. Originally it meant a post used on a ship or a quay, principally for mooring. The word now also describes a variety of structures to control or direct road traffic, such as posts arranged in a line to obstruct the passage of motor vehicles. The term can also be used to describe short, post-like light fixtures.

I believe these bollards have lights in them, maybe where those circles are. I don't remember having taken a photo with lights shining from there. Maybe that should be a new goal of mine, to check it out some nice evening--may not be too many of those in 2014 since the rains are coming.

Salmon Street Springs, Location: Waterfront Park, Naito Parkway at SW Salmon, Hours: 6:00 AM-10:00 PM during spring/summer/fall

Robert Perron Landscape Architects and Planners designed the fountain which was dedicated in 1988. A computer regulates the changing patterns of the water display. At full capacity, the fountain recycles 4,924 gallons of water per minute through as many as 137 jets at once. There are 185 jets. The three cycles of the fountain are called misters, bollards, and wedding cake.

Salmon Street Springs, in its many cycles, provides the perfect meeting place for many who enjoy coming together

DSC_0002

I've taken photos for the Race for the Cure team made up of fellow employees for four years now. We always meet at the Salmon Street Springs fountain. I do not remember seeing in pink any other year. And the pink didn't last too long. I'm happy that I got this photograph! Based on what I read on the city's Web site, I think this cycle is a partial wedding cake.

Just enough sun coming through the haze to create a pink tinge on that man's T-shirt. The man carrying the pink patio umbrella.

The pink patio umbrella announces Bev's Bosom Buddies, one of many groups of runners and/or walkers supporting loved one impacted by breast cancer. Look closely and you can better see lots of names of those bosom buddies in this HDR alteration of the image.

Pretty in pink, at the Race for the Cure

race_cure_4_pix_2_PicMonkey Collage

On this particular sunny Sunday, September 16, 2012, I saw lots of pink. Here's the cutest pink I managed to photograph. While walking with Daddy and being out of the stroller held the little girl's attention at first, the sound of approaching Mommy brought her up short, made her turn and walk straight into her mother's arms.

A break from MOPAR and the family and friends in PDX for some photos from Portland's Race for the Cure, participants in support of the cause

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I think it's about time I share some photos that I took on Sunday, September 18, alongside Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Naito Parkway. There were all sorts of races, timed, not timed, running, walking, different distances. Huge, huge crowd--more than 35,000 participants.

All sorts of pink everywhere, from head to toe, flying and fluttering sometimes.

A break from MOPAR and the family and friends in PDX for some photos from Portland's Race for the Cure, during the event, a few of the survivors

During the event, survivors ran down their special, set-aside-just-for-them, finish chute, grinning and running. Brought tears to my eyes, more than once, I can tell you. Lots and lots of survivors and those who love and support them.
