City Daily Photo Theme Day: Pedestrians Crossing

Click here for a trip to City Daily Photo, transporting you around the world every day.

DSC_0109_HDR

April's theme day presented a problem for me, only in that I have so many photos of pedestrians crossing at so many intersections, I had a time deciding on one image. That is, until I came across this one and realized that these folks are indeed pedestrians crossing each other on the sidewalk. Here's the HDR-altered photo, taken of the sidewalk beside the Sizzle Pie on the corner of NW 10th and West Burnside, downtown Portland. What's better, the intended subject or the serendipity? You decide.

surprise_red_black_stop_sign

What self-respecting CDPBer could resist the red and black stripes so close to the mostly red and black pizza sign? Not I.

Who would get a great big grin on his/her face once this photo had been downloaded to the computer, making the entire thing visible? Not I.

Y'all see what I'm talking about, right? What do you think is best? I need you input because I can't decide for myself.

Oh, before I forget, here's the full photo from yesterday. It's a Mini seen through the barred window of a below-street-level parking garage. Glad y'all stopped to look.

January, 2008, Theme Day: Best Photo of the Year

buds
For what seemed like an inordinately long time, these rhododendron buds stood guard at our building's front door, reminding me for all the world of a photo of those terracotta soldiers from the tomb of China's first emperor, Shi Huangdi.

I took this photo months before I became aware of the City Daily Photo Blog community. For that reason, I decided to look through the many photos I had taken prior to September 1, 2007, searching for a photo I particularly wanted to share with you. So today I begin what I plan to be my first full calendar year as a CDPBer, with this photo that I took on March 4, 2007.

I'm not sure that I can truly convey how satisfying, exciting and supportive I find the CDPB community to be for me, so I'll just say, "Thank you, from my heart."

You'll have a blast looking at all of these photos of the year, 2007:

Snow No-Show

escalator_640

I'm not playing a silly trick,
Showing that moisture on the bricks.

No way, no how, no where, no snow.
That's how my wishes went from dawn to night
Sort of like this escalator appears to go
On 2nd Avenue--to nowhere, out of sight.

Snow did fall at a higher height
But just not where I stood last night.

About no snow, it's true, I'm sad.
About clear roads, for sure, I'm glad.
'Cause I made it home to size my photo at Flickr
And then to post it for y'all, City Daily Photo Bloggers.

So, even with the snow a no-show
Tonight's post is still a go-go!

Flat Stanley wants you to meet someone.

121107_fs_alien_bus_stop

Flat Stanley and I stopped by Fred Meyer after work today, to shop for deviled-egg-makings. Back at the bus stop on West Burnside, we settled in to wait a few minutes, standing beside the yellow metal newspaper box a few feet from the curb.

"Look!" Flat Stanley cried. "Look at that alien! Let's take a picture of me standing beside him 'cause I think the kids back in Florence, Mississippi, at Steen's Creek Elementary will get a kick out of that! I'll bet the CDPBers will, too! I'll bet we've got time before the next bus!"

He talked so fast that in just that few seconds I went from looking right, left, up and down, to unzipping my rolling bag and pulling out my camera. Somehow in all of that movement, I managed to find the alien on the top part of the newspaper box. Great idea, FS! Click, click--quickly--here comes the bus.

Back at the apartment, when he looked at the photo after I downloaded it, a thoughtful look came over Flat Stanley's face.

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"Where do you suppose the rest of his body went?" he said to me. "I'll bet he's got that look on his face 'cause he's wondering the same thing."

Then he looked and me said, "I know. Let's ask the CDPBers what they think happened to him."

Another great idea, FS.

Random Thoughts, Shining Continents

113007_worldtctr_enhanced_620x427_wider

Here's what caught my eye Wednesday after work, not that I don't look at the World Trade Center sign most every day as I walk from one bus to another, from SW Main and SW 2nd Avenue north to where SW Taylor crosses 2nd. My thoughts range from remembering Sept. 11, to enjoying my reflection in the shining continents as I walk by, to thinking about City Daily Photo bloggers everywhere and how much I'm learning and loving being a part of that world every single day.

Those random thoughts usually lead to my thinking of what The Oswegan has said as part of his post "Are You Addicted to Blogging" on Nov. 22: "What is remarkable about the blogosphere to me, is how it enables people from all over the world to connect, and to discuss interests and ideas, and the way that relationships are formed based, not on appearances, but on intellect, wit, sense of humor and common experience."

Well put.

If you'd like, you can read The Oswegan's entire post and the scores of comments it engendered here.
