Seen on TriMet, a great place for people watching

Untitled

This elderly gentleman is the most interesting person I've seen in almost ten years of riding TriMet. Would that we could have spoken with each other. I'd love to know his story.

Untitled

Another photo of him.

Untitled

And a final photo.

I turn down the sound on my iPhone and act as if I'm looking at something on my phone, hoping not to embarrass the subject or the photographer. So far, so goo.

Seen on TriMet, a great place for people watching

Untitled

You should see her spring purse, a sort of mint green Kate Spade. I noticed it when she stood in front of me waiting to get off the bus. It's a good-looking purse which has a shoulder strap and regular handles, same as this one. Do you suppose it is a Kate Spade?

Seems like I noticed her talking with the man with the mustache, but at this point, I cannot remember for sure--I took this photo over a year ago. I haven't noticed him on the bus this spring.

Winter Opposites - No. 7, Another shot of that busy corner at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Sunshine brings people outside where they are together, talking, laughing, walking, looking. I took this photo of these people outside our NBC affiliate KGW's Studio on the Square. Several weekday broadcasts originate here. I took this photo, which is just a few feet north of the photo on Tuesday's post, on September 2, 2011.

See the bits of pink in the background? To the left, that's the box office for the Big Pink Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Trolley Tour. And the other pink, to the right, is the actually trolley, waiting on SW Broadway for tour-goers to board. You must be very careful when getting off, though, because that last step can be much higher from the sidewalk than you're expecting. My sweet friend Kay tore something in her knee getting off in 2012 and had to have surgery followed by rehab.

My March Madness continued with people watching--a fine sort of sport--in the gusting, blowing wind outside the Rose Garden Arena

When this man approached from my right, just as he got even with me, his hat blew right off! "Your hat!" I hollered. He had felt it lift off his head and altered his course to chase it down. I had no hope after watching it flip a couple of times. Imagine my surprise when it landed just as you see it and sat there! I saw him later on inside the arena and said, "I'm so glad you got your hat back!" He replied, "I am, too. Where are you from?" I guess my Mississippi accent gave me away.

I saw these two coming and decided to take a photo just after they had passed me by. Look how the wind is plastering that man's pants to his legs! He's smart to hold onto his cap. She's probably wishing that she hadn't opened her umbrella which looks to have been a nice one for keeping the rain off. And how about the new part in her short hair, center-back-of-the-head? I had a blast watching people while waiting for the doors to open.

I hope the look on these three faces gives you an idea of just how cold that blowing wind really was. A cold that hurts. If I were the man in the red hat, I would have had my friends wait for a moment, turned my back to wind, and zipped up my jacket before taking another step. Does it look to you like the youngster on the left is pulling his hands into his sleeves? To keep them warm? He's wearing shorts, for goodness sakes, and he's worried about his hands?

Just after the man in the cap handed the Session 1 ticket to his friend who must be truly grateful that he has real hair and not a toupee, the man in the cap walked away to my left. The envelope flew out of his hand, and he didn't feel a thing! I yelled, "Something blew away!" His friend with the great hair had seen it and was fast after what turned out to be the envelope which held the rest of the duo's tickets. The man in the hat rejoined his friend who had retrieved the envelope. Smiling at me, he walked left again, envelope still in hand. If it blew away again, I didn't know about it.

Colonel Summers Park, August 2, 2010, #1: Pets and People

One year ago I met Lamont and our friends Chris and Leslie and their Rottweiler Brixx at the park to watch folks playing kickball and dodgeball. Turned out to be a great time for people and pet watching.

Brixx loves everyone!

Don't know this dog's name, but clearly resting one's paw on the ball equals ownership. You should have seen the dog, chasing around at the end of the leash!

Candid #2

DSC_0076p-p
On June 25, I ventured out for the second time that sunny Saturday, riding the bus to a stop atop the Burnside Bridge. I sauntered down the steps and headed to the Saturday Market. This man's bicycle helmet caught my eye as I watched people while sitting on a low concrete wall, the Willamette River to my back. It was the Transformer-looking angle of the helmet, to be exact, and the fact that his face had practically disappeared from sight which made him even more Transformer-looking to me. As I took the photo, I couldn't help but think, "I hope he pays much, much less attention to his phone once he mounts that bicycle."

I also couldn't help myself when it came to altering the image at Picnik. Cropped, focal zoom, Orton-ish. Seems like I used an additional effect, but I cannot remember for sure. Gettin' old over here!
