Tuba Christmas, Pioneer Courthouse Square, December 10, 2011

DSC_0168p_tuba_christmas_pioneer_courthouse_square

I arrived on scene about 10 minutes before Tuba Christmas began, all 225 tubas would play to a standing room only crowd, one Christmas carol after another. Realizing I would not find anywhere to sit and that I wouldn't care because it was so doggone cold, I walked close to these two bass tubas--is that what you call these humongous instruments? Aren't they heavy? I don't know. But I do know that the man on the left played a beat on his tuba that had everyone getting their groove on. Then the man on the right and he challenged each other, vibrating the air around us magnificently, bringing smiles to nearby faces.

Wonderful performance obviously by the look on everyone's face.

Wonderful shot. Love the comic effect! So shiny! And the smiling girl off to the right gives the photo just the right amount of zing.

Nice shot, Lynette. I like the circles in all of their sizes and placements. This would have been fun to hear and see.

I am the one in the middle! ya! and if anyone is wondering, the sousa on the right is a C.G. Conn Grand Jumbo 46k, and the one on the left is a C.G. Conn 20k, as is the one I am playing. very good picture. the three of of players seemed to be very photogenic that day.

Thanks, Anonymous, for the information about those brilliant tubas! Yes, you three were certainly photogenic last Saturday. And everyone sounded so great!

The man on the right is Ian Church playing a CG Conn Grand Jumbo 46K Sousaphone and the man on the left is Johnny Quirarte of Los Culpables de la Sierra on a Conn 20K, the man in the middle is Fred Williams also on a Conn 20K

I really like your pictures. Not being an Oregon Native, I get homesick a lot so when Im out roaming around Portland I usually just see the negative things. Your pictures show me there is more to look at here and maybe I should stop and notice sometime. Thank you for sharing all of this.

Thanks, Trista Z, for your comment. I find it exciting to live in Portland for many reasons. I hope you will be able to find some reasons to enjoy your new hometown as your are out and about.
