Vacation, Day 9, 10/29/2009, Part 5

DSC_0377p
You can easily see why this house grabbed my attention as we drove back from Talladega to the campground.

DSC_0383
Lovely scenic fence--I wonder what it encloses?

DSC_0387
From Tuesday through Monday, we're local!

DSC_0404
On the way back to Talladega so that Ian and Kay could play golf and I could ride along on the golf cart and take photos, I spied this abandoned barn.

DSC_0409
We had a stop to make first, to get the best available pumpkin so that Ian could carve it for Halloween.

Vacation, Day 9, 10/29/2009, Part 3

DSC_0305
Thursday continues. Ian and Kay ride off somewhere in the golf cart. Looks like the ghosts are about the fly off the canopy!

DSC_0306
Milton's plastic basket drying rack, tied to the sink's metal frame with white cord.

DSC_0311
The opposite end of the sink frame holds a piece of plywood, placed over the opening for the other basket. The S-hooks have been put to use, too.

DSC_0318p
Milton's at work to stop the cords from fraying.

DSC_0319p
Now he's pulling on each piece.

DSC_0320p
Snap!

DSC_0322
Now that he has altered all of the strings that he needs, Milton has moved the plywood, put the things to drip dry in the basket at the opposite end of the sink, and goes about tying this basket into the frame.

DSC_0326p
In no time at all we're in the truck, heading into the town of Talladega, going to a grocery store, of all places!

DSC_0327p
The drive took us along several country highways.

DSC_0328p

DSC_0329p
This shot reminds of the Blue Ridge over east by the Appalachians.

DSC_0337p
Lovely home surrounded by trees. I held the camera at the window and clicked off four or five, pointing it to the right as we went by. I got this one, thank goodness.

DSC_0339p
Imagine our surprise when we came upon TM Cars on the outskirts of Talladega. You see, Milton's first name starts with a T, and at work everyone calls him TM!

DSC_0346p
We went by the clubhouse at the golf course before we headed for the grocery store. Kay and Ian planned to play later on, so they wanted to find out the hours.

DSC_0355p
"Reserved Drivers Road Test Only," that's what the blue, diamond-shaped signs read. Looking at the photo, I began to wonder about the building, so I Googled, "Talladega Alabama county." That's where I learned that the building is the Talladega County Courthouse. Isn't the Internet wonderful?

DSC_0360
I took this photo through the passenger window of the truck. Since I didn't know the name of the theater, I went to Google again. I learned that it was built in 1936 and used to be called the Martin Theatre--now it's the Ritz. It has been restored and reopened as a multi-use community arts center.

DSC_0363
I took this photo through the windshield. I can't remember the last time I saw this sort of traffic signal.

More of our tour of Talladega to come.

Vacation, Day 8, 10/28/2009, Part 5

DSC_0067p
Tinkerbell's finished playing with the empty water bottle, for now.

DSC_0086
Honest, I don't know who was messin' with Kay, or why. I do know that she's takin' it very well 'cause I see a grin! By the way, that trailer directly behind her is the bottom end of someone's U that faces the next road over. The front part of the trailer to the left of the photo is part of what turned out to be an L for us this time. Both sets of friends arrived in time to settle in well before supper and sunset.

DSC_0087
See, she's using that sharp knife to prepare beef for fajitas. Ian's checking out the satellite reception for his grandfather Milton. And there, beyond Ian, you see it's open--that's where our U would have been closed if it hadn't turned into an L.

DSC_0089
Here's Milton.

DSC_0092
Now that he won't have to go back up the ladder to make satellite adjustments, Milton has hung the metal rack on it, the rack that he crafted for the kitchen sink. My Daddy would've loved this whole idea and its execution!

DSC_0096
He's working with tubing and connectors for the sink.

The white hoses are for water.

DSC_0113
Yowsers! Running water has arrived!

DSC_0119
Kay's Halloween bat lights look good even in daylight.

DSC_0124
Kay's Halloween ghost lights on the golf cart.

DSC_0125p
Moon rise.

DSC_0130
Scary Halloween skeleton--what a look!

DSC_0136
Kay and Ian cut tomatoes for the fajitas. You can tell the temperature's dropping--Kay's got on her sweatshirt.

DSC_0134
Milton set up the outdoor heater. I think it's propane, but I'm not sure.

DSC_0140
The sky is so pretty in this photo.

Vacation, Day 7, 10/27/2009, Part 5

First, you have to understand something about Milton. The man can cook! So inside the trailer we've got all sorts of stuff to cook with, to cook on, and to cook. Let's see what came out of there!

DSC_0210
DSC_0209
You'll get to see this little beauty in action later on.

DSC_0214
OK, you also need to know that I don't cook out, grill, or smoke food. I eat out. That's it. (Of course, I cook at home, in the kitchen, then I eat in.) So I cannot remember for sure what this is, but I believe it's a smoker, and maybe it could be a grill, depending where and what you put in it to create the heat. (If I weren't in a time zone that often means Milton and Kay are already asleep when I need to ask them a question, I'd call one of them right up and find out for sure.)

DSC_0215
Out comes the ladder.

DSC_0216
Good thing curiosity didn't take out the doggie 'cause Tinkerbell's some kind of curious, standing at the backdoor, lookin' in to see what's coming out next.

DSC_0217p
She's a blur, just to the right of the golf cart 'cause she's seen Milton take a seat and put the key in so that he can start it and drive it down the ramp. Also to the right of the golf cart, you can see boxes of bottled water, a yellow plastic jug that I think holds cooking oil for that Cajun Fryer, either Kay or Ian's golf clubs, a white plastic table folded in half, a whole bunch of extension cord, and no telling what else.

DSC_0218p
A second later, and she's in one of her all-time favorite spots, with her beloved Milton talking to her. See the blue baskets behind them? That's the something free from the Fred’s Store in McComb, Mississippi.. Later on you'll see them in action.

DSC_0222p
Looks like Tinkerbell's concerned about the golf cart's descent, with Milton at the wheel.

DSC_0228
The golf cart's on the ground. Tinkerbell's the picture of innocence. Looks like she's thinking, "Me, a side-seat driver? Nah."

DSC_0233p_600
Time for an exercise break for Tinkerbell and Ian!
