ESHT 2014 - Sights around Llangollen, No. 1 - plus a perfect lunch

The railroad station made me want to find some lunch quickly and walk back to the bridge, at least, so that I could take some photos.



The Buttered Crust, right across the street from where Tommy parked the coach, proved to be the perfect spot of a delicious, quick, and fortifying lunch.



The clean, bright, spacious downstairs dining area. We almost had to go upstairs to find a table, but just as we were discussing it, a couple got up from their table by the window. Yea for us!



How about that statement hanging across the fireplace? I liked it just as much as I did the message on the chalkboard: Please take a seat ... a member of the staff will be with you shortly. That's exactly what happened. That's a bookstore attached to the Buttered Crust.



A roll to butter, the butter pat wrapped in foil and waiting right there. Hot, tasty, satisfying leek soup. Yummy. Both of us got the same thing and ate all of it.



For the rest of lunch, both of us ordered jacket potatoes and salad. Once again, hot and tasty--the potato, crispy and tasty--the salad.



Next up, walking the streets to see as much as possible in the limited time we had. I couldn't pass up taking this photo of these sunflowers--I love sunflowers!

Friday, June 27, 2008 ... Sunflower for a sunny day

This sunflower was among the many for sale at Pioneer Courthouse Square last week. I thought it fitting to show you such a pretty flower with a bit of sun shining on it since we're in the midst of some really beautiful, sunny days. In fact, we're forecast to have record-breaking heat in the Pacific Northwest this weekend.



I especially liked the care that was taken to showcase the sunflowers with the corn behind the rows of pots, along with whatever that is in front of them, shorter so that they don't detract. Do I see a cone-shaped bloom or some such among the green leaves?

I'm so very late posting because I decided to take a nap yesterday evening and never made it back to the computer then or this morning. I did manage to wake up last night and this morning to walk Duncan, our darlin' miniature dachshund and to go to work. I'm a good girl after all, raised right by a good mother. By the way, Mama and I and our nine windows and six fans are as ready for the heat as we can be.

Sunflowers, stalwart and true, make me smile.

When I walked down NW Everett and across NW 17th Avenue on Monday morning, I grinned when I saw these sunflowers, still standing as straight and tall as they were the day I took this photo in August. In the last few weeks we've had some hard rain and/or gusty winds, and these sun-lovers persevere. Their slender stalks grow in a small corner yard, raised about two feet up from sidewalk level. A low wall supports the yard and frames the outer edge of the flower bed.
