Vacation, Day 8, 10/28/2009, Part 6

DSC_0141p
Our lovely friend, Kay, who is more like a sister to me and another daughter to Mama. We are blessed.

Stirring the fajitas.

DSC_0149
Closer to sunset.

DSC_0157
Supper's sizzling and the jalapenos are HOT.

DSC_0170p
Everyone is so-o-o-o full. Some are standing around the heater, no only because they want the heat, they're too full to sit down! Look at the flame on that heater-wow!

DSC_0174
Bundled up together, Tinkerbell and Kay sit in front of the TV.

Here's what we watched every chance we got while we were at the campground.

Vacation, Day 8, 10/28/2009, Part 5

DSC_0067p
Tinkerbell's finished playing with the empty water bottle, for now.

DSC_0086
Honest, I don't know who was messin' with Kay, or why. I do know that she's takin' it very well 'cause I see a grin! By the way, that trailer directly behind her is the bottom end of someone's U that faces the next road over. The front part of the trailer to the left of the photo is part of what turned out to be an L for us this time. Both sets of friends arrived in time to settle in well before supper and sunset.

DSC_0087
See, she's using that sharp knife to prepare beef for fajitas. Ian's checking out the satellite reception for his grandfather Milton. And there, beyond Ian, you see it's open--that's where our U would have been closed if it hadn't turned into an L.

DSC_0089
Here's Milton.

DSC_0092
Now that he won't have to go back up the ladder to make satellite adjustments, Milton has hung the metal rack on it, the rack that he crafted for the kitchen sink. My Daddy would've loved this whole idea and its execution!

DSC_0096
He's working with tubing and connectors for the sink.

The white hoses are for water.

DSC_0113
Yowsers! Running water has arrived!

DSC_0119
Kay's Halloween bat lights look good even in daylight.

Kay's Halloween ghost lights on the golf cart.

Moon rise.

DSC_0130
Scary Halloween skeleton--what a look!

DSC_0136
Kay and Ian cut tomatoes for the fajitas. You can tell the temperature's dropping--Kay's got on her sweatshirt.

DSC_0134
Milton set up the outdoor heater. I think it's propane, but I'm not sure.

DSC_0140
The sky is so pretty in this photo.

Vacation, Day 8, 10/28/2009, Part 4

DSC_0027
Blue skies over Talladega and the campground mean it should be OK for Milton to move the trailer to their regular camping spot, which essentially makes the bottom of a U, with usually two of their friend's rigs making the two arms of the U which is open to the road.

DSC_0028
He skillfully backed the hitch in the truck's bed into the trailer's connector.

DSC_0033
You have to head in the right direction so that the doors on the trailer would open into the U.

DSC_0035
Milton directs Ian as he backs onto the planks placed there to keep the wheels from directly resting on the ground, in case it rains again.

DSC_0036
The tarps are moved and covered with blue indoor/outdoor carpet.

DSC_0039
Actually the tarps and the carpet are secured at the corners and every now and then with metal spikes to keep everything in its place, plus they're duct taped together along their overlapping edges. Speaking of everything, look at all of the stuff unloaded the day before and toted across the road. Some people came to help, the ones from the previous vacation post, the ones with the short, swiveling flag poles holding the American flag and a Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88 flag.

DSC_0044
Kay and Tinkerbell sit and rest for a bit.

DSC_0045
Now Milton and Ian begin to work at putting up the E-Z Up canopies. First off comes the storage bag.

DSC_0047
Then you spread it out.

DSC_0048
And more.

DSC_0049
All the while making the E-Z Up larger and larger.

DSC_0051
Now Ian and Milton each stand at a leg, raising it to the desired height.

DSC_0058
Tinkerbell plays with her favorite toy, an empty plastic water bottle, on a section of the indoor/outdoor carpet yet to be covered by an E-Z Up canopy. Look how she's holding on with her front paws!

DSC_0077
Kay's hanging her purple Halloween bat lights in the E-Z Up.

DSC_0085
The skeleton will join the bat lights later on. He's waiting on top of the folded out white plastic table, covered with Kay's plastic table cloth.

Vacation, Day 8, 10/28/2009, Part 3

Just a few of the sights from Wednesday, our first full day at Talladega.

DSC_0010p
Now that's a big rig! I wonder if the folks inside had to rent two sites for it.

DSC_0017
Another view of the big rig. It's at the dump station which is exactly what you think it is.

DSC_0013p
These innovative flag poles caught my eye. They actually swing back and forth in the breeze.

DSC_0014p
Wonder if the guy used to be a Boy Scout? Look how prepared he is, brought his firewood, lawn chairs and plenty of flag poles.

DSC_0016p
Toys on both sides of this camper trailer--to the left, a TV satellite, to the right, what looks to be a blow-up play pen or some such. Must be a Boy Scout here, too.

DSC_0022p
And there, in the distance, part of the grandstand at Talladega Superspeedway. I think that tallest section is the Tri-Oval Tower, maybe also it includes the Oval Hill Tower, North and South sections. I knew I couldn't remember for sure, so I Googled without much success until I decided to go to Google Images. That's when I searched for Talladega Superspeedway Tri-Oval Tower. Imagine my utter shock when the third photo, that's #3, was a photo that I took in April, 2006, and had put onto this blog in April, 2008. It's a photo of Kay and Mama sitting beside the fire in the very same campground I went to on vacation. Really! Isn't that a hoot? You'll have to scroll down a little bit to see that particular photo, though.

DSC_0023
Remember the trailer that had been brought over earlier and left? Here it is again. Now there's a golf cart that must have arrived on the flat-bed trailer parked to its left. I wonder where the road-worthy vehicle is that drove it there? How far did they come? I hope it's not far because they'll have to make two trips home, one for each trailer. These must be some real race fans.

And so are the folks in the big rig. That's a Montana license plate on it, at least 2000 miles from Alabama to Montana. Wow.
